"She took the time to design a hairline that actually fits my head shape, not some generic template, and matched the pigment perfectly to my skin tone. What I didn't expect was how natural and realistic the front hairline would look."
"She's an absolute perfectionist and really takes her time to make sure everything looks spot on. The whole process was way more comfortable than I expected, pretty much pain free."
"Lesley was brilliant to deal with start to finish. I was receding, so scalp micropigmentation had always been an idea I had toyed with. I don't think I've invested my money in anything better for my appearance."
"Refresh to my SMP after 5 years. I am so happy with the results. I am an older lady and my hair is patchy and thin. SMP has filled the gaps perfectly."
"I found Lesley after some Instagram searching for hair tattooing to mask hair thinning. She answered multiple questions with zero pressure to book in. And I'm very happy with my results."
"Her attention to detail is unmatched. She listens and gives a personal plan to achieve your look. I wanted the more natural look and she absolutely nailed it."
"Lesley created a natural look on my hairline. Skilled professional service. Very happy with the outcome."
"I had high expectations having already had SMP before and I can definitely say I'll be coming back for all of my touch ups."
Client journeys
They all look like they belong to the client. That’s the difference between good SMP and average. Real clients, unedited, shared with written consent.
Why this takes four sessions and not two
Bad SMP comes down to three faults: dots too large, density built too fast, and a hairline edge that's too hard. All three come from rushing. Spreading the work over three or four sessions lets each layer heal before the next goes in, so the result reads as hair, not pigment.

The honest version
You've read both sides already. Here's where we stand, before you ask.
"When SMP is all you do, you become the specialist people trust."— Lesley Atkinson
Aaron Grundy founded Hairline Solutions in 2011 and brought SMP to Australia. Lesley trained under him in 2019, worked beside him until he retired in 2023, then bought the studio.
Even good SMP often still looks like SMP. Lesley builds every treatment over three to four sessions so tone, softness and edge can be judged at each stage. The result reads as hair, not a tattoo of hair.

The studio is at Mudgeeraba, just off the M1 about twenty minutes from Surfers Paradise and a little over an hour from Brisbane. Plenty of clients travel in from Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and northern New South Wales, and sessions can be scheduled to group travel sensibly — tell us where you're coming from on the consult.

Questions

0425 900 129The three things that make SMP obvious are impressions placed too large, density built too quickly, and a hairline edge that's too hard or too straight. All three come from compressing the work into fewer sessions. Building across three to four appointments means each layer heals before the next goes in, so density is judged against the actual healed result rather than guessed at. Look closely at the gallery — that's the test, and it's the only one that matters.
Three to four for most people, spaced one to two weeks apart. Scar camouflage usually needs an extra one. Interstate & International clients — sessions scheduled around travel
It depends on the area covered and the number of sessions your pattern needs. You'll get a fixed quote at the consult before anything is booked, and payment plans are available. Pricing is not the place to shop this treatment — correcting bad SMP costs considerably more than having it done properly once.
A good treatment holds well for a couple of years and then gradually softens. SMP is cosmetic tattooing, so your skin slowly breaks down and carries away some pigment. How fast depends on sun exposure, how oily your scalp is, what skincare and exfoliants you use, your individual skin, and the pigment and technique used. Most people come in for a top-up every two to four years.
Three to four sessions, spaced about a week apart. Some artists offer fewer — but density built too fast is one of the three things that make SMP look obvious. Each layer needs to heal before the next goes in to achieve the results that I do.
Often, yes. Work that's gone too dark, too blue, or has dots that are too large can sometimes be softened and reworked. A hairline placed in the wrong position is harder and may need removal first. Send photos or come in — we'll tell you honestly which category yours falls into, including if the answer is that we can't fix it.
Neither is usually the issue. Pattern matters far more than age — in fact, an older client with an advanced pattern is often a more straightforward treatment than a younger one with partial loss, because there's less blending to do. Age is also a factor in hairline design: a hairline that suits a 30-year-old looks wrong on a 55-year-old, and getting that judgement right is most of the job.
